Guess, George W. (1829-1868) — of Dallas, Dallas County, Tex. Born in North Carolina. Lawyer; married Mary Brown Miller; Lt. colonel 31st TX Cav; mayor of Dallas, Tex., 1866-68. Member, Freemasons. Died of sunstroke, aboard a steamboat on the Mississippi River, at a wharf in Memphis, Shelby County, Tenn., July 18, 1868. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, Tenn. (unmarked grave).
