The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

New articles available

For those who might be interested -

I have completed three new Driving Guide monographs -- willing to supply gratis copies to interested individuals, museums, libraries and historical / genealogical societies. Both of these articles track troop movement routes along modern roads, giving the motorist (or motorcyclist) specific maps and directions to follow the old routes as nearly as is possible along modern roads.

#1 follows the Old Camden Trail / Steele's USA retreat from Camden AR to Little Rock (April, 1864).
#2 follows Cabell's CSA route from camp near Ozark to Battle of Fayetteville along Mulberry and Frog Bayou Roads (April, 1863).
#3 "The Little Rock Loop" follows Butterfield and other stage routes on a circle drive from Little Rock - Maumelle - Conway - Old Austin - Jacksonville (basically 1858-1861)

Still working on the CSA and Union routes from Prairie Grove to Van Buren (December, 1862).

Have also completed the Missouri Pacific Railroad route connecting to the Butterfield Stagecoaches (1858-1861); Memphis and Little Rock Railroad and Little Rock & Fort Smith Railroad -- but this is probably the wrong forum for those.

Anyone who wants pdf copies of Camden Trail and / or Battle of Fayetteville routes (or others), let me know and I will email forthwith. kirby.sanders.biz@gmail.com

If request is from library, museum or other educational organization, I am willing to give permission for limited print copies to be included in non-circulating reference collections. Willing to discuss wider publication and distribution arrangements, but freebies for single copies to individual researchers and reference copies for educational institutions / societies.
