Bill, I couldn’t find any military information concerning Dr. Chapman. Perhaps if you could let us know how you got your information, someone might be able to dig a little deeper. In the meantime, however, here is some “other” information.

1. Born 27 June 1831 in Illinois
2. Son of Wilson and Sarah Jane Chapman. Wilson born 26 MAY 1808 in TN, Sarah born 25 OCT 1810 in KY – they appear in the 1850 Washington County Census.
3. Pleasant secured a Washington County Land Patent on 1 SEP 1849 (BLM-GLO, Fayetteville Land Office, Document #5051, Serial/Accession # AR0940_475.
4. 1850 Census: appears in Washington County, Arkansas, age 20, b. IL with wife Sarah, age 23, b. NC, and daughter Mary, age 1, b. AR, occupation farmer.
5. 1860 Census: appears in Washington County, Arkansas, with wife Sarah and children Mary, 10, Jane age 8, William age 7, Adeline age 4, and John age 6 months, occupation farmer
6. Brother Daniel served in Company A, 1st Arkansas Infantry, USA. Enl 14 Feb 1863 at Fayetteville, AR. Age 20, farmer, ht 5' 8", eyes blue, hair lt, complx tan, born in Washington Co, AR. (Gerdes Site)
7. 1870 Census: appears in Sebastian County, Arkansas, wife Sarah, age 43, Melissie age 19, William C. age 16, Tennessee age 13, and John age 10, occupation physician
8. 1880 Census: appears in Porterville TWP, Tulare County, CA, with Sarah and son John
9. 1900 Census: appears in Tule River TWP, Tulare County, CA, with Sarah and grandson, Hershel W. Cochran.
10. Died 10 OCT 1904 at Porterville CA
11. Listed in the Directory of Deceased American Physicians, 1804-1929, type of practice: Allopath
