Ken -- Captain Head's company was definitely an Arkansas company. I've never been able to learn much about it. I have a roster of its members around here somewhere, and I know that it was assigned to Colonel Hardeman's Texas Cavalry Regiment (aka 1st Regiment Arizona Brigade, aka 31st Texas Cavalry) as Company H, but I don't know exactly when it was organized or how it ended up in a Texas regiment.

Capt. Joseph Washington Head and his brother Lieut. John Cain Head were from Sebastian County. Lieut. L. R. Props was from Sevier County, and Lieut. Catlett G. Hurt was from Montgomery County. Most of the men were from Sevier County, with a handful of others from Scott, Montgomery and Hempstead counties. Most of the men had prior service in other Arkansas regiments.
