Re: Hindman descendants
In Response To: Hindman descendants ()

I have been of the opinion that Hindman had no direct descendants other than his children.

Susan, b. 18 OCT 1857
Sallie, b. 1859
Bixcoe, b. 27 NOV 1861
Thomas C., III, b. 23 NOV 1863
Blanche Carlotta, b. 2 DEC 1866 (in Mexico)

There is no evidence that his first child, Susan, ever married. After her mother died in 1876, Susan more or less took over the welfare of her siblings by selling literary works. She appears in the 1880 census as head of household and single. She died in 1882.

Sallie Hindman died when she was five.

Biscoe married twice, but his two wives appear in census records as having no children.

If there are any direct descendants out there, they would possibly have descended from Hindman’s son, Thomas C. III. He appears in the 1910 Cook County, IL, census as divorced. I haven’t found any evidence that he had children, which I believe to be the case (note the next to last sentence in this post).

The last child, Blanche Carlotta, did marry a man with the last name of Cox. She appears in subsequent records as living alone.

And finally, a statement in a Hindman biography reads, “With Blanche’s death, the direct line of Thomas C. Hindman’s descendants came to an end (The Lion of the South, page 245).”

If anyone comes up with a here-to-fore unknown direct descendant, I would really appreciate the posting of that information.
