11th Arkansas Infantry, died at New Madrid

My 2nd great grandfather, David Cox, was in the 11th Arkansas Infantry and died of sickness at New Madrid on 14 or 24 January 1862. This was before the Battle of Island #10 and New Madrid. Where would he have been buried? Would his body have been sent back home to Hot Spring, Arkansas, or buried in Missouri? I have searched and searched for a possible burial place and am stuck. Any hints would be appreciated. Thank You.
