A Bushwhacker were mostly Confederate guerrilla fighters that mainly sets up ambushes in swamps, woods, etc. Some Union were called Bushwhackers as well. Jayhawkers were mostly the Union version of Bushwhackers.
I am sure there are some sites out there that explain more in detail, but I am not sure what they are.
