A muster roll of Co. C, 15th (Northwest) Arkansas Infantry, dated July 15, 1863, states that Pvt. William W. Floyd was "absent, a paroled prisoner in Virginia." And the last entry in his Compiled Service Record states that he was admitted to a hospital at Richmond, Virginia, on May 8, 1864.

The enlisted men of the 15th Northwest Arkansas who were captured at Champion's Hill on May 16, 1863, and on the Big Black River on May 17, were mostly sent to Camp Morton, near Indianapolis, Indiana, although some were sent directly to Fort Delaware, then forwarded under parole to City Point, Virginia, for exchange. Private Floyd was in the latter group. I don't know why he was still in Virginia in May 1864, unless he was in and out of the hospital during that period.

Generally, only officers were sent to Johnson's Island, Ohio, though there were a few exceptions from time to time.
