I had a couple of great uncles that served with Witt's regiment. Charles Poff served in the 10th Inf, Co G up until July 18, 1862 then joined the 8th Ar Cav. His brother Henry Y Poff joined Co G of the 10th Cav after Port Hudson and was paroled June 5, 1865 at Jacksonport, AR. If your grandfather mentioned either one I would be gratefull to hear about it.
