The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: More Arkansas Unionists
In Response To: Re: More Arkansas Unionists ()

I received an email from a guy who admonished me for saying in my previous post that the 3rd Arkansas Cavalry U.S.V. was the first Union regiment recruited on a geographic basis, he remarking that many Union regiments were recruited in that manner.

Just to clarify, my remarks concerned only Arkansas Union regiments, and by "northern counties" I meant the northern counties of Arkansas. Even though this is an Arkansas board, I guess I should have been more emphatic that my remarks addressed Arkansas regiments only. Can't take too much for granted, I guess, so I can't fault the guy for taking me to task. So, once again, my comments involved Arkansas Union regiments, and not the Union Army as a whole, and in that context the 3rd Arkansas Cavalry U.S.V. was the first Arkansas Union regiment organized on a targetted geographic basis.
