The 3rd Arkansas certainly got off to a shaky start. Old Stonewall Jackson refused to retain them in his command and sent them packing to North Carolina. It was at Sharpsburg that the 3rd Arkansas finally proved its mettle -- their action at the Bloody Lane was truly heroic. Shortly after Sharpsburg they were assigned to the Texas Brigade, and by the time of Chickaumauga -- the subject of the game Jim mentioned -- there was no question about the fighting ability of the 3rd Arkansas.

I wonder if perhaps the gamers rated the 3rd Arkansas as less combat-effective because of its casualties? They were a pretty skinny regiment by that time.
