Your information is correct. In the late 1950s or early 1960s Professor Lemke of the Washington County Historical Society and Dr. Ferguson of the Arkansas Historical Commission searched for the banners of both the 1st and 2nd Arkansas Union Cavalry, which had been donated to the state archives. They were not found and the men theorized that they had been destroyed after Reconstruction. Although when I spoke to Dr. Ferguson some years ago about the matter, he did say it was possible that someone had taken them and hidden them to prevent such destruction, I didn't get the idea that he really thought that this was what had happened.
