38TH ARKANSAS INFANTRY
COMPANY H

This unit was formed in Randolph Co AR during July and August 1862. Enlistments were at Rice Springs unless otherwise noted. (We have been unable to locate Rice Springs other than to note that it was in Randolph County.)

Generally men joined units that were formed in their communities. The 38th Arkansas would be a good bet. However for a variety of reasons a good number of Arkansas Men served in Missouri Cavalry Units. It is possible that he served in both units, but I would start with the 38th first and see if there was any information more than what is given on Edward Gerdes webpage, which you seem to already have.
