Thanks, Bryan. I suspected it was something of this nature. It was indeed fairly common to divide up cavalry regiments in detachments like this. It wouldn't have even raised an eyebrow for me if the OOB's listed the detachment as Co. A of the 1st Ark Cav.--it was the omission of that little detail which drew my attention.
