Linda --

The 1850 census lists this man with wife Rebecca J. Counts, age 23, and daughter Georgian, age 1, all living in Jackson County. Henry Counts does report his birthplace as South Carolina, but his age is 26. That would make his birthyear about 1824.

The 1860 census lists him living in Calhoun County MS with wife Rebecca J. Counts, age 28, and daughter Georgianna, age 11. Henry Counts again gives his birthplace as South Carolina, but his age is 33. That makes his birthyear about 1827.

Since none of their large family was born in Arkansas, this is a better question to post on the Mississippi board. Your ancestor could be any one of the three Henry Counts who have military records for units raised in that state. In 1860 his name is reported as Henry C. Counts, if that helps. He married Rebecca J. Dickey in Yalobusha Co. MS in 1848.
