THOMPSON & 1st ARK INF

I'm interested in names/info of students of St Johns' College, Little Rock, including those who served in the army.

Did Lt Col John Baker Thompson have some of his St Johns' College students enlisted in the 1st Ark Inf?

Historian Margaret Smith Ross (1922-2002) in article of Ark Dem,19 Nov 1950 wrote:

"Here [Shilo] John Tompson, the school's president, died with eight bullets in his body. With him as he lay dying was Tom Newton, one of his former students who had been at his side during te fighting"

This may (?) have been s/o Thomas Willoughby Newton (1804VA-1853NY), --- to Little Rock 1820.

Its known some students were in Capitol Guards, Co A, 6th Ark Inf

The school's vice-president was William Naylor Bronaugh of 2nd Ark Inf fame.
