Also it is to be noted that in the 3 months between the issuing of this order and the Battle of Arkansas Post. These Units underwent several different reassignments and reorganizations such as the formation of Dawson Brigade which became Dunningtons Brigade out of the Arkansas Units which were originally assigned to Garland's Brigade.
Garland's Brigade in this order is listed as being Unattached in late September. Many Tables of Organizations will show Garland's Brigade as being a part of later Walker's Texas Division. However, this seems to be incorrect since in mid October Garland's Texans had orders to be transferred east of the Mississippi to either Bragg's or Lee's commands along with 4 other regiments of Texas Infantry.
But Holmes argued that he could not spare Garland's men until after the first of the year. And the rest is history when Garland's Brigade was captured at Arkansas Post.
