These are the men that in Dec 1862 were at Camp Nelson, Pine Bluff, Arkansas Post, and actively patroling between the White and the Mississippi Rivers to keep Curtis Army in check at Helena.

Most people forget that in late 1862 the Confederates in Arkansas were fighting on two fronts. The Northwest, and the Lower Arkansas River valley and Mississippi River. So the organizations not specifically assigned to the 1st Corp, which was organized to answer the threat that was building around Fayetteville, became the 2nd Corp to protect Little Rock from anything coming from Helena or up the Arkansas River. Which had in fact been the primary front during the summer of 1862.
