Bushwackers at Roseville

Somewhere in my unorganized surfing of the internet, I came across the information that my g-g grandpa, Stanley Rodgers was killed in a skirmish at Roseville. I think it was April of 1864. He was a civilian and he was married to Orpha McVey. Can anyone point me in a direction to find out more? The skirmish was with bushwackers. I don't know if they were for North, South or for themselves.
Any help would be appreciated.
