Your “mud” is a lot clearer than you realize and very appreciated. This is extremely helpful in clarifying those vague weeks of May and June 1862. Does this mean Major Greenwood was associated with state militia, or was he CSA?
Another point, I always thought that Hindman was the impetus behind conscription of a new army for the defense of Arkansas. Since companies that became A, B, C, D, & E of the 26th were raised before he entered the state, did these men enlist without “coercion,” or did Rector and Roane exert a conscription program of their own? I seem to remember that companies raised before a certain date, although through conscription, could elect their own officers. Was this a Rector promise or a Hindman promise?
