Bryan Howerton has previously posted the company muster in rolls for the 26th Arkansas. Haven't seen Bryan post here in a few weeks [AWOL ?], so with the permission I'm sure he would give, here are muster in dates and locations [excerpted from Bryan's previous post] for just those companies mustered in May of 1862.

TWENTY-SIXTH ARKANSAS INFANTRY.
Muster roll of officers present, September 30th, 1863:
NAMES. RANK. DATE OF APPOINTMENT.
Field and Staff.
A. S. Morgan, Colonel, July 23d, 1862.
B. A. Landon, Surgeon, July 19th, 1862.
G. M. Wright, Adjutant, March 18th, 1863.

Yell's company -Date: May 3, 1862. Station: Monticello, Ark.
Gibson's company-Date: 3rd day of May, 1862. Station: Monticello, Ark.
McSwine’s Company -Date: May 12, 1862. Station: Pine Bluff, Ark
Halliday’s Company Date: May 12, 1862. Station: Centreville, Bradley Co., Ark.
Stanley’s Company “E” Date: May 12, 1862. Station: Selma, Drew Co., Ark.

Little Rock, June 1st, 1862
Captain Tom McSwine
Pine Bluff
You will proceed immediately to this place with your company. Give the same order to Captains {Fountain P.} Yell, {Samuel} Gibson, and Bragg.
T. C. Hindman Maj-Genl Comdg.

This telegram names three of the companies shown in the above muster in rolls, and also a Capt Bragg’s company. I do not find a Captain Bragg in Morgan’s battalion or regiment. Perhaps this company was diverted to Pleasant’s regiment where there is a Captain Bragg:
Bragg, John D Co G Captain Pleasant's 37th Ark [29th aka 1st T/M].
Enl 10 May 1862 at Hamburg, AR
If so, then perhaps the "de facto battalion" mentioned by Doyle was reduced to 3 companies.

Doyle says: ”While Morgan's Battalion was officially organized at Little Rock from these companies, In the hindsight of history there seems in fact to be a defacto battalion of these 4 companies already existing at Pine Bluff/Sulphur Springs prior to June 1st........”

Doyle and I have communicated many times regarding the Alexander Papers. Here are some paraphrased extracts from these papers that confirm Doyle's conclusion of a "de facto battalion."

June 9, 1862
Little Rock. Hindman to Major Flathosz cmdg. Battalion:
Move your Battalion across the river and camp as near town as possible

June 13, 1862
Special Orders #3 Army of the South West-
-announcing company officers including Capt Neale to be of the Battalion lately commanded by Major O. Platosz
-Major O. Platosz to report to Capt F. P. Hall cmdg said battalion
-Major Platosz is hereby relieved from command of the battalion but will continue in the capacity of drill officer

June 14, 1862
Special Order #4. Army of the South West-
Capt Morgan is hereby assigned to duty as Lt Col and Capt F. P. Yell as Major of the Battalion lately commanded by Major Platosz, to take rank from this date.
Major Platosz is relieved from duty as drill officer of Col Morgan’s Battalion and will report for duty to Gen Roan

I haven't identified Captain Neale and Captain F. P. Hall yet. Although, there is a Captain B. C. Neal commanding Co G 36th Arkansas.

Doyle asks: “I would like to know what Captain Yell had reported to General Hindman that Gen. Hindman needed to get the facts and act upon? It sort of sounded serious.”

T. C. Hindman Maj-Genl Comdg.
1. Little Rock, June 3rd, 1862
F. P. Yell
Pine Bluff
I ordered the companies at or near Pine Bluff to this place. When they come I will get facts and act.
T. C. Hindman Maj-Genl Comdg.

***********************************************************

Doyle, as you well know, there was another Hindman to Yell telegram of the same date. And, we know that Captain Yell was promoted to Major on June 14, 1862.
Don’t know if this telegram offers any clues or not. Perhaps it has something to do with Bragg’s company going to Pleasants’ regiment.:

Little Rock, June 3rd, 1862
Captain F. P. Yell Pine Bluff

Yes when approved by me.

T. C. Hindman
Maj-Genl Comdg

Doyle’s conclusions always make sense to me, and are based on an immense amount of knowledge regarding the units in the Pine Bluff area. For the sake of discussion, I’m going to hazard another possible meaning regarding Captain McSwine that is much more of a “guess.”

Hindman says to Yell: “I ordered the companies at or near Pine Bluff to this place.”

He also says to Capt McSwine at Pine Bluff: “You will proceed immediately to this place with your company. Give the same order to Captains {Fountain P.} Yell, {Samuel} Gibson, and Bragg.”

Based on the muster in rolls, McSwine’s company is the only one mustered at Pine Bluff. Perhaps it was more convenient for Hindman to telegraph McSwine at Pine Bluff, and then have McSwine pass the word to the other companies outside of Pine Bluff. If so, then perhaps McSwine was just a convenient messenger based on his location at Pine Bluff.

Wow, I went from hard data to guess work pretty fast.
