The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Reginald H. Thompson-7th Kentucky-13th Ark-Des

Chuck, I have a little information on Carlton's Arkansas Cavalry. I'll see if I can find the box it's in, and give you what I have.

Off the top of my head, though, I know that the Desha Rangers was assigned to Carlton's regiment as Company H. Most of the companies appear to be from the Arkansas-Jefferson-Drew-Desha county area. The regiment seems to have been broken up after Price's Missouri Campaign. Some of the companies then operated as independent partisan ranger companies until the end of the war. Marcellus Vaugine was a first lieutenant in Company B, then apparently was promoted to captain and commanded the company after the regiment broke up, and gave the Yankees fits for several months in 1865. There are a few references to Carlton's regiment as the 28th Arkansas Cavalry, but I could find nothing official about this designation.

More later when I go through my files.
