The date of organization for the regiment is rather interesting as that really leaves open the question of whether this regiment ever really existed. A letter written by the 8th Arkansas' assistant surgeon Lycurgas Dickson in late September has the 8th awaiting the arrival of four of McCarver's companies to relieve them so the 8th can follow Hardee as he begins to move to Bowling Green. A letter dated September 25, then has these four companies which must be the 9th Battalion placed under Colonel Patterson's (8th Arkansas) command and the entire command to begin moving to Kentucky the next day.

What I would like to know is where the rest of the regiment was from this time until they turn up in Corinth especially since you have given me a new project as I suspect quite a few of the men in this regiment of coming from what would now be southern Sharp county.
