I've driven all through the Ouachita Mountains, and made the trip from Shreveport to Fort Smith more times than I care to remember. Sometimes, while driving along on a modern paved road amidst some of the most rugged terrain in Arkansas, I would try to imagine how tough it must have been to make that trip on foot or on horseback, along trace trails. A man had to be real serious about his destination to take on a trip like that.
