I have just been doing some research on where Col. David Shanks might have died. The David Shanks who died in Collin Co. TX in 1883 was not Col. Shanks. This David was from Platte Co. MO where he and his wife Levica and family are on the 1860 and 1870 census. You can tell it's the same family by the name of his wife and children. The Missouri Archives has a Civil War enrollment card that states David Shanks enrolled Nov 30, 1863 New Market, Platte Co. in the 82 Rgt. E.M.M
