Head Qrs Dobbins Brig’d, Tulip, Ark, Oct. 6, 1863.

Col. S. S. Anderson, A.A.G., Shreveport, La.

Colonel—I hereby tender my immediate and unconditional resignation as Captain in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States of America, for the following reasons, to wit: Having but very few men left to command, I feel that it is useless for me to remain longer, and believe that some other branch of the Service will be more congenial to my ego, and furthermore I am unwilling to serve in any command where my superiors have as much reputation for the abuse of ardent spirits as I am informed General Marmaduke has, and who I learn now has command of the Brigade to which I belong.

I am, Colonel, very respectfully, your obedient servant,
ROBT. C. NALL, Capt.,
Com’g Co. F, Dobbins Regt.
