Some older men lied about their age and joined in service, such as my g,g,grandfather, Rev John FLORA (1800Ger-1876IN) enlisting in the Union Army in 1861 when 61 y/o, discharged Feb 1863.

He was Capt O C GRAY's (3rd Reg Ark Cav,CSA) son Carl Raymond GRAY's grandfather-in law. Grandfather of Carl's wife, Harriette A FLORA.
