A good example of what you're talking about is the "Record of Events" section of company muster rolls, where the company commander is supposed to detail the company's activities during the bi-monthly reporting period. In the majority of cases, the section was left blank. In other cases, the officers would report "nothing of significance occurred during the period." On the other hand, the regiments under Cleburne (God bless him), as well as the 3rd Arkansas in the ANV, have detailed entries in the "Record of Events," detailing distances marched on each day, location of camps, details of deaths, discharges, furloughs and casualties, elections of officers, etc. Unfortunately, these are in a distinct minority.
