Re: Robert N. Ross, believed to be CSA

Linda,

After the battle of Wilson's Creek, the 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles sent recruiting parties back home to replace their losses. New recruits from each of the companies' home counties weren't mustered into service until they actually joined the regiment. At the time that Robert N. Ross and others enlisted, the 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles was camped on Flat Creek, Missouri. That's why his record shows that date and place of enlistment.

There's no later record of service for him, so apparently his Pea Ridge wound was indeed permanently disabling. The bones in his arm were "shattered" by the impact of the gunshot, and the examining surgeon certified that, in his opinion, Private Ross would not be able for service "in a less period than sixty days, if ever."
