Bryan Howerton is correct on all the consolidating that went along from 1862 to 1865. I have a copy of "The History Of The Thirty-First Arkansas Confederate Infantry" by Ronald R. Bass and it was published in 1996 by Arkansas Research, here in Conway. It does say that just before Chickamauga, Col. Henry Bunn commanded the 31st. It also states that Col. McCray received his orders back to Arkansas on August 12, 1863 (reported to the Trans-Mississippi Department at Shreveport, about Sept. 14, 1863). Along with Col. McCray, there were about 11 more field and staff officers that were relieved and sent back to Arkansas with him. I would just like to know what happened to Col. McCray after he was transfered. Of note, the 1865 consolidation was the final one. Also, this history includes rosters.
