Col. McCray was regiment Commander of the 31st. Ark. Inf. (also known as McCray's Battalion). Sometime in August 1863 (just before Chickamauga), the 25th. and 31st. Ark. Infantry, the 4th. Ark. Battalion were consolidated into the 4th. Ark. Regiment commanded by Col. H. G. Bunn. Most of the Officer's were sent back to Arkansas, however the enlisted troop's stayed. My GrGrGrandfather was one of them, Pvt. Thomas B. Kirkland. Whatever happened to Col. Thomas Hamilton McCray? Also, How long did he live and where is he buried? On my GrGrGrandfather's Pension Application, he listed his unit as "McCray's Battalion".
