Re: Not a Georgia soldier but an Alabama soldier

More likely the Provost Marshal where the prisoner was captured would note his unit or branch of service. Since Camp Chase was in the Western Theatre of war probably unlikely any Confederate Marines or sailors would end up at Camp Chase. To my knowledge there were none. However a few Confederate prisoners at Camp Chase did elect to join the Union Navy ie galvanized. Camp Chase did have an Ensign or two but these Ensigns were also 1st lieutenants and were flag bearers for their regiments. I believe the rank of Ensign in the Confederate Army was started about February of 1864. There may have been a few Confederate sailors or Marines at Johnson's Island on Lake Erie during the war but not sure.

Would like to visit Camp Chase again this year but will have to wait to see how things play out.
