Re: Camp Davis, Alabama-Thomas Jefferson Garrett

Lieut. Benjamin Franklin Weathers, Co. E, 17th Alabama Infantry:

"The regiment on the 18th of September was mustered into the Confederate service for three years, or during the war. The regiment moved to Shorter Station, 23 miles east of Montgomery, went in camp in an old field and drilled for six weeks. Camp was in Macon County, a few miles from Tuskegee. The citizens were very kind, many of them bringing us wagon loads of all kinds of vegetables."
