I find only this in the Official Records for the time period.
Here is a portion of a report by Colonel Josiah Patterson, 5th Alabama Cavalry, commanding Roddy’s 1st Brigade
Col. Josiah Patterson from Pond Spring, Ala., June 27, 1864, reports “I have just seen the officers of that portion of the Fifth Alabama Cavalry now here.”

His CSMR card no. 3 is an Inspection Report of the Division of Cavalry, commanded by Brig. Gen. Roddey dated July 16, 1864, Corinth, Miss. in which his name appears
