The Hurricane of 1900

The Galveston, Texas hurricane of 1900 was the worst in American History concerning the loss of lives. Estimates are about five times or better than the loss of life of Katrina.

Yet an old man in his mid 70's rode out the hurricane in a lighthouse in 1900. Charles DeWitt Anderson was a survivor as he had lived through some of the worst fighting in the WBTS.

Sometimes he has been mentioned as a hero during the hurricane but hardly anything is mentioned about his past. He had the Colonel of the heroic 20th Alabama Infantry.

Many articles don't mention his prior duty with the 20th Alabama perhaps some people are afraid to mention the word hero with the Confederacy. But a hero is a hero regardless of clothing or age.
