It would appear that Pvt. Shows returned to his unit sometime later, but date unknown.

Cornelius Shows, Private, Capt. Glasgow’s Company, Hillard’s Legion, Alabama Volunteers,* enlisted April 8, 1862 at Greenville by Capt. Glasgow for 3 years, last recorded on March 1, 1863 as deserted while in Camp near Knoxville, Tenn., about August 20,1862, no further records

* This company subsequently became Company A, Artillery (4th) Battalion Hilliard’s Legion Alabama Volunteers

Cornelius Shows, Private, Company I, 59th Alabama Infantry,** enlisted April 1, 1862 at Greenville, Ala. by Capt. Glasgow for the war, receipted for an issue clothing November, 1864 /s/ ‘X’, “His Mark”, Neil Shows, again on December 31, 1864, last recorded present at the Jan/Feb, 1865 muster, subscribed and swore allegiance to the U. S. at Point Lookout, Md., June 17, 1865, resident of Butler County, Ala., light complexion, D Bro hair, grey eyes, 5’ 8-1/8”, released same day

Note, the only other Company I muster roll found in the records was that for the Jan/Feb, 1864 muster, he was not recorded on that roll

** Six companies of the 2nd Battalion and four companies of the 4th Battalion, Hillard’s Legion, Alabama Volunteers, were consolidated November 25,1863, to form the 59th Regiment Alabama Infantry

Gorom/Gorum/Gorham/Gorrim, Private, (New) Company K, 5th Regiment Alabama infantry, enlisted May, 1862 at Camp Walls, Al./September 10, 1862 in Butler County, Ala. by Freeman for the war, recorded as missing after the battle of Chancellorsille, Va. May 2/3, 1863, received a parole from the Provost Marshal General, Army of the Potomac, May 4, 1863, admitted Howard’s Grove Hospital, Richmond, Va., June 8,1864, returned to duty July 6, receipted for an issue of clothing November 6, 1866, signs by an “X’, “His Mark,” captured at Petersburg, Va. April 2, 1865, subscribed and swore allegiance to the U. S. at Point Lookout, Md., June 12, 1865, resident of Butler County, Ala., dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, 5’ 7-1/2”, released same date
