Re: Union Brigade at the Crater

Hey, Mr. White:

Long time no "see." Hope all is well with you.

According to the following account, written by Henry Goddard Thomas (of the Second Brigade), many more officers were killed than the Civil War Research Date Base casualty list that Mr. Martin checked would indicate. Unfortunately, only a few more of this much larger number are mentioned by name. This eye witness account might prove helpful, however, for various reasons. Of possible interest is the mention (Column one) of Lt. Col. John A. Bross's (brother of the Lt. Gov. of Ohio) leading black troops and falling almost instantly, making one think of your red headed one armed man leading and going down swiftly. Too bad he's listed as having brown hair on Mr. Martin's list. Anyway, I trust you might fact a fact or two of interest. I'm still looking for your red topped fellow, for what's its worth.

Regards,
Hoyt Cagle
