In most if not all Southern states a man couldn't qualify for a state pension based on militia service.
Most militiamen never left home for more than a few days, and normally militia companies didn't keep rolls. So there's no way to prove they served honorably or not. The SCV may allow applications for militia service. However, unless I miss my guess, there should be several other ancestors in actual Confederate service that could be used for an SCV application.
