Citronelle Surrender Tree

Capt. E.B. Belding, of this office, a civil war veteran, is now in his eighty-first year. During the holidays he received a fine cane from relatives in Alabama. The stick was made from the "Surrender Oak" at Citronelle, that state. Under this tree the last surrender of the civil war took place on May 4, 1865. The oak was blown down in September, 1906, and has been in great demand for souvenirs.
