Hello, Mr. Austin:

While I'm doing my thing and happen upon what I consider an interesting item, (which I don't necessarily endorse, buy into, believe in, guarantee, nor confirm), I post it to the appropriate board for others perusal. I honestly don't know the answer to your question, nor know if this item is valid or not. I merely found it of general interest and thought it might provoke some thoughts and speculations, which you were kind enough to provide, and I thank you for same.

I will add that I am constantly being amazed at the people of that time and place being able to keep abreast of the news, even at a distance. The grapevines of the day were most efficient, and I have no actual reason to doubt that the folks in Eufaula weren't on top of things. I hope others will weight in with their thoughts on the topic.
BTW, are you kin to Dr. Helen Austin of Decatur, AL?
