Great story but one must question how on that particular day, at that particular hour, the people of Eufaula knew the guns at Pensacola were, or were not, firing. Without that knowledge how could they know what they were hearing? On the other hand, I remember reading a first hand account of one of the major eastern battles where the writer was positioned on a mountain top and could see the combatants but due to atmospheric conditions did not hear a sound.
