Re: Alignment of Infantry Companies

Rhonda,

Many years ago, I read that the location of the companies was related to the seniority of the company commanders and the experience or quality of the company. So Company "A" was supposed to be the best or most experienced company, with the most senior Captain/commander, company "B" next, company "C" and so on. The flank positions were the most critical for the regiment, so companies A and B occupied these locations. For the following locations, I believe the idea was to place the least experience companies and least senior company commanders between two more experienced companies. Maybe one of our reenactors or someone more studied in tactics and organization can elaborate on this.
