Baggett enlisted on April 3, 1862, at Coosa, for three years. Records are spotty, but show that he was wounded on July 30, 1864, and sent to Richmond. I don't think this unit was involved in the Battle of the Crater, but that took place on the day he was wounded, and his unit was at Petersburg then. Hospital records for General Hospital - Howard's Grove - show that he was furloughed for 60 days on Aug. 8. Company records are somewhat different, showing that he was furloughed from Richmond for 40 days on Aug. 15. I would bet on the hospital records, since he likely received his furlough from a doctor there. The company muster roll for the period Jan - Feb 1865, shows him AWOL, and the record does not show anything further until he signed a parole at Montgomery, May 27, 1865.
