The officer was Christofer C. Pegues, not Peques. I have several ancestors from South Carolina with that surname. He was initially the captain of Company F, later a colonel of the regiment.

Robert Emmett Rodes began his military service as a colonel, later was promoted to brigadier, then major general. He was killed in action by an artillery shell fragment at Winchester, VA in 1864.
