D S Wingard

I know this email is rather lengthy but I want to give you all the info I have. In the letter Nancy Wingard received from David written on Dec. 29, 1862 he said he was not well and had been sick about 10 days. He said he was getting enough to eat but that he only had one pair of pants and no coat but that Captain Belcher told him he would have one in a few days.
He told her that they had fought three days in the Battle of Fredericksville but he came through safely. The Yanks lost 110 men and his regiment lost 25 and they had beat them bad. He said that the Yanks fell back and that he went in among them to return their dead to them. Both sides admitted to being tired of fighting and said that if the other side would back away that they would. This letter was postmarked Guiness, Va.
Records indicated that he received clothing on Dec. 30, 1862 and was supposed to be issued more during this time period but was "in hospital". The hospital was the one you gave me info on in Richmond, Va. His name was put down as D S Wingood and he died on Jan. 17,1863.
This is all the info I have on him. Two of his letters he wrote to Nancy are in the Archives and History Department in Montgomery, Al. I went there a few days ago but didn't have time to do a whole lot of research because I was with my grandchildren.
The James Samuel Wingard who was buried in Hollywood Cem. is not him. This Wingard was kin to him distantly but James was returned back to Lexington, SC five years after he died in 1862.
I would think that Hollywood Cem. would have some info on each soldier buried there that would give us a little more on him then what we have. I want to know where he is buried exactly not just a guess about which grave is his. It has been over 153 years since he died in the Civil War and is way past time to know this information. I read where there were about 800 men buried in Hollywood Cem. who were unknown who fought for the South.
I may never find out for sure which grave is his but your info on the other soldiers who died in his regiment and were buried in Section D of Hollywood Cem. is a good place to begin to search. Thank you for all your info and God Bless. Linda Wingard Parrish
