Re: For Miles Crisman (5th AL Infantry)

Mr. Crisman,

I am seeking info on my Great grandfather David Samuel Wingard (Wingherd) who fought in the 5th Alabama Infantry Co. H during the Civil War. Have you come across any information on him during your research? I have been told that he made it through the battle at Fredericksburg and died in a hospital in Richmond of pneumonia on Jan. 17, 1863. I have not found his burial place but have been told it was probably Hollywood Cem. or Oakwood Cem. both located in Richmond, Va.
If you have come across anything on him during your research I would love to know what you have found. If you haven't come across his name please don't feel like you have to search I just thought you may have already come across him.
I would love to be able to get a marker for his grave. I have not been able to link him to anyone of his family because I don't know what his plot number is or even exactly where he is buried.
He was born on April 27, 1831 in South Carolina and died in Virginia. He was married to Nancy Lambert Wingard 1837-1904. He never returned home from the war and it was many years before my grandfather inquired about what happened to him. He left behind two sons, my grandfather Irvin Wingard was around seven when he left and the other son never knew him because he was born in 1861 the year he left.
I am not content with the info that I have and have taken it upon myself to try and find out more. I know he had 12 other siblings and his father died in 1895 so it looks like someone would have tried to find out more about him.
If you get this email please let me know if you know anything and I want to thank you for any info you can send along.
I don't know why this has become such an obsession with me to find him but it bothers me that so many are trying to do away with the history of the Civil War when so many Southern and Northern men died.
These men deserve a place of honor because they fought and died for a cause they believed in. You can't wipe away history just because you don't like what happened.
Thank you for any info you may have, and God bless you for the research you have already done on the brave men who fought and gave their lives, especially for the South, during 1861-1865.
Sincerely, Linda Wingard Parrish
