In Response To: Re: Walthall ()

I'm going to try and answer several of you in one post.

Mr. Bryant, I don't claim to be as bright as you, kind sir. I'm always blown away that a man such as yourself even deigns to read my scribbles, much less actually answer same; and I thank you. However, as you know, most patronage jobs went to GAR members post war. Sure, y'all will find a few ex Confederates here and there that got such jobs, but finding those few will but prove my point.

Mr. George Martin, you are fully aware of the respect I hold you in, as I have stated same a few times here and there, (and, oddly enough, I hold you in more respect since I found out your middle name.) Thank you for keeping me on my toes.

Mr. Gewin, I don't "know" you, but I appreciate your input.

Mr. Sam Price, I must admit and confess that I was tweeking your nose ever so slightly in my reply in which I mentioned Col. Wm. P. Kendrick. You certainly seem like a nice fellow, and I offer no excuse for my actions. I suspect, but could be wrong again, (what, twice in one year, nonsense!) that you are an older man like myself. Col. Kendrick was a Union Officer that seemingly couldn't get his story straight even with the aid of a tireless researcher like Mr. George H. Martin. I, at one point, considered that he was a secret agent working behind the scenes for purposes unknown.

I am merely a sick old man, and claim to be nothing but.

And now, may I suggest we take this discussion elsewhere before our genial webmaster deletes us all for being seriously off topic, as not much of this concerns Alabama in the Civil War.

Regards and respect to all
Hoyt
