Barbiere’s Battalion Alabama Cavalry appears to have been formed of independent companies which had been organized for local defense and were serving with the Alabama Reserves
Roll bears the following endorsement:
“Adj. G.:
Give order that these men may be mustered in but the company be not considered fully complete till the complement of 64, to be raised from non-conscripts or disabled men, be obtained & be subject to service in the State on conscript duty & under the general direction till further orders of the commandant of conscripts in Ala.
24 Nov., ’63. J. A. Seddon, Secy. of W.”
