Re: Raney's Randolph County Reserves

County Reserves generally lived at home and served like military police, arresting conscripts and deserters. Talk with enough old-timers, and you may hear stories of county "home guards" behaving like those you read about in "Cold Mountain" (a novel based on a true story). Things got rough after Congress extended the draft to include men up to age 50 (senior Reserves) and 17-year olds (Junior Reserves).
