The last living Alabama soldier?

The strongest case for William Atkins Thrasher of being a Confederate comes from Beauvoir. They claim he enlisted in 1863 in the 8th Alabama Cavalry (Hatch's)

There is little doubt that he was at the soldiers home at Beauvoir and perhaps his information came from him. Beauvoir said this online:

"The last veteran to die at Beauvoir was Jim Walton of Winston County. He died on February 2, 1947, at the age of 96 or 97, and is buried in Beauvoir Cemetery. However, Walton was not the last veteran to live at Beauvoir. On August 30, 1949, James A. Thrasher of Smith County was admitted to the home at age 97. He left Beauvoir in 1951 at age 100 and died three months later".

To perhaps further support his claim there was a J. Thrusher in Company A of the 8th Alabama Cavalry at fold 3. and it listed his residence as Bibb County, Alabama.

The 1860 United States census does show a James Thrasher living in Bibb County with approximately the same birth year but he appears to have been James W. Thrasher and not our soldier in question.

The ADAH have nothing on him from what I can find.
